Maui For Every Season

Whether you’re looking to book a romantic vacation, a family-friendly holiday, or trip with a group of friends, Maui is truly the perfect getaway 365 days a year. Hawaii’s second-largest island is cherished by native islanders and visitors alike – and for good reason. Consistently warm temperatures, clean and natural beauty, a rich culture, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere make Maui a magical place to be any time of year.

Maui has one of the most pleasant climates year-round, thanks to its tropical location and ocean breezes. And with a varied and pristine terrain, visitors can enjoy beautiful beaches, lush rainforests and volcanic peaks – all on the same day. There’s also a plethora of activities to choose from including surfing and snorkeling, local markets and traditional luaus, golfing and hiking, and world-class dining, art and shopping, making Maui a dream destination for every traveller.

As work to rebuild after the 2023 Lahaina wildfire continues, you’ll also find resilient and generous communities taking great care to preserve the island’s unique cultural and environmental heritage – with many ways for visitors to contribute.

There’s no shortage of ways to immerse yourself in the Aloha spirit and the island’s full recovery, and no shortage of warm welcomes for those helping support Maui’s rebounding tourism industry. If you’re planning a Maui visit but are unsure what time of year is best, here is a bit more info on what Maui is like during each season!

Spring (March - May)

In this shoulder season, you’ll find fewer crowds and more space at Maui’s numerous beaches and attractions. Springtime is also within prime whale watching season, and a stunning time of year to enjoy the colourful bloom of the island’s tropical flowers. Outdoor enthusiasts will love a spring hike in the Iao Valley or at the Haleakalā Crater, and a drive on the Road to heavenly Hāna is particularly scenic with waterfalls running at full flow.

Summer (June - August)

Sunshine galore, warm, dry weather and calm waters make a summer vacation to Maui ideal for beach and watersports lovers of all stripes. More than 30 miles of pristine, public beach surround the island. Stretches of both black sand and white shores can be found, many with sheltered areas for safe and comfortable swimming. Snorkel or scuba at the Molokini Crater or Honolua Bay.

Take a paddleboard or surfing lesson at Wailea Beach or watch for sea turtles and other marine life from the shore. Unwind while celebrating Hawaiian traditions at one of the many festivals and cultural events held across the island during the summer.

Fall (September - November)

A slower-paced atmosphere and a peaceful vibe await visitors to Maui in the fall. Enjoy warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and great deals on flights while exploring the island’s unique attractions. Fall is a perfect time to sample local wines in upcountry Maui or explore fresh, island-grown produce on a farm tour or at a farmer’s market. Enjoy uncrowded and spectacular sunset views from Lahaina or Wailea or the breathtaking sunrise at Haleakalā. Book a guided horseback ride across ranchlands, beaches and tropical forests for an unforgettable experience of this island paradise. Helicopter tours are also readily available for those seeking a view of Maui from a unique and adventurous perspective.

Winter (December - February)

Escape the cold in a tropical paradise with seemingly endless activities. Treat yourself to a luxury spa or beachside wellness activity or book your me-time on the green or the court. Visit the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens or the Maui Ocean Center to learn more about the island’s natural abundance.

A trip to Waianapanapa State Park is a sure-fire cure for any winter blues, as is humpback whale watching – as easy to do from shore this time of year as it is by boat on an organized tour. Be sure to spend a day at Mākena State Park’s “Big Beach” and grab a shaved ice (or two) for the road.
